And yet Design Hotels has turned its back on foam parties, instead transforming a 200-year-old stone-walled farmhouse into nine Moorish-style rooms with burnt-wood furnishings, iron fixtures and roll-top tubs. The heart of La Granja (Spanish for "the farm") lies in the citrus and nut groves outside, where guests — when they're not in group meditation or sound-healing workshops — help harvest ingredients for communal meals such as fresh-caught sea bass wrapped in homegrown fig leaves.
