Das Stue Berlin
Kind of Stue – Matti Klein
Weekly series of close encounters with the living jazz legends and blossoming virtuosos playing in the intimate settings to the most discerning ears.
We do have to reduce the spectrum to create a signature sound which at times and to some may appear as though it has a singular and definite source.
Matti Klein: "As a kid, I was fond of Maceo Parker and had a strong affection for Keith Jarrett and Michel Petrucciani. I was listening to Stevie Wonder and James Brown a lot. But no, I don't think my music strictly derives from my early experiences as a listener. As a musician, my horizons are significantly broader and dynamic. They encompass much of electronica and world music. There are too many influences to point, all so diverse. I also play classical music. The spectrum is much larger than one can perceive and especially so when we play all together. But we do have to reduce it to create a signature sound which at times and to some may appear as though it has a singular and definite source."
