JACKIE O BERLIN
Berlin Summer Rains III – Hazy Pockets
Rollicking grooves, punchy house for both the raver kids and the suits, the old-school heads, and the neophyte, it's a human-level soul music.
Pushing his audience into vehement elation with relentless disco-house, acid-funk, and blues-stomp, Joel's ultimate dedication is your enjoyment.
Blue-chip of quantum physics, string theory that posits the existence of parallel universes in order to explain some weird, otherwise unintelligible phenomena in this world appears to be fundamentally flawed, ladies and gentlemen. Yep! The multiple mirror realities cannot be hypothesized as even roughly parallel without first finding the equivalents of Hazy Pockets out there. No such evidence. One and only, given to our senses here and now... Hallelujah!

Bless your little heart! Hazy Pockets has just rode into town. Cowboy-conjurer, dedicated disco dilettante, Berlin DJ by way of Texas and California, Joel Isaac Black is a memorable, if not divisive figure, a tireless soul man preaching boogie music in a robotic techno town.

Born in Texas to a blues musician father, harmonica and swamp guitar were his lullabies. Moving out West to L.A, working first as a rock 'n' roll drummer, and later a studio owner and producer, Joel kept chasing that certain guttural, soulful sound he was introduced to at an early age. After a decade of crate-digging and curating a world-renowned vinyl store in Los Angeles, he was re-baptised at the discotheque and took his gospel around the world.

Hazy Pockets' marathon sets are conceived, arranged and delivered to induce not just a physical response, but ecstatic dancing. Rollicking grooves, punchy house for both the raver kids and the suits, the old-school heads, and the neophyte, it's a human-level soul music forging loose anonymous turnouts into dense, jubilant and intimate totalities. Pushing his audience into vehement elation with relentless disco-house, acid-funk, and blues-stomp, Joel's ultimate dedication is your enjoyment. It's working-class muscle, it's drinking music, it's oh-my-god-we-work-so-hard-we're-gonna-have-a-good-time-tonight music.

As both resident DJ and chef at Berlin's most notorious Kater Holzig/Kater Blau and their integral Fame/Katerschmaus restaurants, Joel has been honing his instinct for self-expression, performance and as much as for service. His natural propensity reveals itself in refined form through his numerous other engagements on the global club circuit, including that in the capacity of a program director at Jackie O Berlin.
